The Soursop plant is one of my newest tea discoveries. The fruit is super delisicus and the leaves steep to an amazing herbal tea and is used worldwide for its medical properties.

A few months back I randomly walked into a Haitian bakery and after they didn't have the smoothie presented on the menu was convinced by the people in line to try soursop. I was very surprised it tasted like a strawberry, pineapple and honeydew had a baby and I was very much in love. Months later a Jamaican friend mentioned that Soupsop leaves are used to a tea and has some amazing health benefits. It was only a few days later I heard some Jamaican lady mentioned drinking some in the cafeteria at work. A great example of why I love working in South Florida the workplace is so diversified with all the amazing Caribbean and Latin cultures. Needless to say after a Google session I quickly ordered some from . Graviloa is the Brazilian name for Soursop.

The fruit, leaves and bark are known worldwide for their healing properties in many medicinal remedies. The health benefits range from calming the nerves to (not medically backed yet) inhibiting cancer cells. Its known to:

  • stabilize blood sugar levels

  • boost the immune system

  • reduce fever, pain and inflammation

The leaves have detoxification, antibacterial, and antivirus properties. Jamaican bush doctors often recommend this bush tea for patients who have trouble sleeping because it can help regulate the nervous system.

The tea has a mildly earthy flavor and creamy smooth texture. It's not a tea you drink for the flavor but for the medicinal benefits so good thing its palatable. I decided to add some ginger in the 2nd batch to give it an extra kick and the two paired very well together. The smooth grainy flavor of the soursop leaves helped to mellow the spicy kick gingers brings to everything.

I don’t know if it's going to kill any cancer cells or make me a better person but I found some ZEN while sipping the brew so I think I'll keep it. Plus I woke up with a flat belly and I'll take anything that any day besides I love anything that helps with the inflammation in my back so winner winner soursop and ginger tea with my dinner.
